The Mambalam railway station is one of the busiest passenger stations in Chennai, India, and a number of residents seek easy and faster access to all the platforms, The Hindu reports. A resident of West Mambalam recently said the provision of the double discharged platform has helped office workers, but passengers waiting for a platform to board a long-distance train still have to take the available Skywalk on the south side. Residents are asking that Southern Railway provide a skywalk on the north side so that passengers, particularly senior citizens, need not walk a long distance. A senior official of the Southern Railway said the Mambalam station, as part of upgrading of passenger amenities, has helped some riders. However, officials said it would not be possible to build a skywalk on the north side due to space considerations.
