Elevators Installed to Make Two More Universally Accessible Stations in Montreal

Workers finished installing elevators at two Montreal métro stations just in time for the holidays, reports The Montreal Gazette. Earlier this month, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) announced that the Blue line at Outremont station and the Orange line at Place-Saint-Henri are now accessible. The updates to Outremont station, which began in January 2021, include the installation of three elevators, a new natural ventilation shaft and a staircase, amounting to CAD53 million in refurbishments along with landscaping costs. Place-Saint-Henri station’s refurbishments, which began at the end of 2020, include two new elevators and two new entrance buildings, along with new landscaping and new street furniture, amounting to CAD39 million. Closed for renovations since 2020, two of the three entrances to Place-Saint-Henri also reopened. Of the métro’s 68 stations, the two stations become the 28th and 29th to be universally accessible.
