Fatal Elevator Accident Prompts Investigation in Malaysia

A 28-year-old man died on December 26 while working on an elevator at a shopping center in George Town on the Malaysian island of Penang, Free Malaysia Today reports, prompting an investigation by the Penang Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH). The man was discovered unconscious with his head trapped between the elevator doors, and the elevator has been shut down as the investigation continues. DOSH says it is obtaining documents, examining the elevator system and compiling witness testimonies to determine whether the man’s employer fulfilled obligations to ensure worker safety. “If violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 contributed to the incident, the employer may face legal actions,” Penang DOSH Director Hairozie Asri said
