Footbridge Planned for Scotland Station Amid Concerns

Network Rail wants to put in the new footbridge to improve access at Dumfries station in Scotland, but concerns have been raised that it would be “out of scale” with the B-listed Victorian station buildings, BBC News reports. Network Rail has applied for listed building consent, saying the new structure would allow “step-free access” across both platforms. The new footbridge would have lifts on both sides of the track to improve access, and Network Rail said it had been designed to “be sympathetic to the look and feel of the historic character of the station.” It is hoped the work on the footbridge can begin in the fall.
