Four Severely Injured in India When Elevator Falls in Apartment Building

Four family members, ages 69, 65, 48 and 31, were severely injured on August 2 as a result of the elevator in which they were riding fell more than 60 ft at an apartment building in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, in eastern central India, The Times of India is among outlets to report. All suffered fractures, and two were in critical condition. Two children onboard “miraculously escaped unhurt.” The incident occurred at approximately 4 p.m. when the six family members boarded the elevator to visit another building resident. Parking lot staff witnessed the elevator plunge from the fourth floor and rushed to the rescue. A preliminary police investigation found that the elevator had not undergone maintenance work “for a long time.”
