Ghana Ministry Reduces Elevator Use, Official Responds

The Ghana Ministry of Health recently issued a memorandum that instructed staff not to access the elevators from the first to the third floor on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Modern Ghana reports. According to the Ministry, this directive is necessary due to the government’s debt restructuring and the amount of money needed to maintain the elevators. In response, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, a health policy planning and financing expert and a former minister of communications of Ghana, has “lambasted” Ghana President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, according to the source, in a Facebook post asking Akufo-Addo to reverse the policy “in the best interest of people living with disabilities, the elderly, pregnant women and, for that matter, children.” Omane Boamah suggests that, instead, the president could cut the number of appointees to reduce costs.
