Ground Broken on Texas’ Tallest Building

Kohn Pedersen Fox has designed a 311-m mixed-use tower in downtown Austin that will become Texas’ tallest building when it opens in late 2026, Arch Daily reports. Targeting LEED Gold certification, the 74-story project called Waterline will include apartments, offices, hotel rooms and a ground-floor paseo along with two new pedestrian bridges and three additional public pedestrian and bike access points. The tower will link the city’s CBD and Historic District and will connect the 10-mi. Hike and Bike Trail along Lady Bird Lake that extends north to the University of Texas at Austin. Lifted 18 m above the street, the tower’s base is supported by a two-story canopy of sculptural columns separated by a floodplain native forest. Waterline is a product of development partners Lincoln Property Company and Kairoi Residential, and ground was broken in September.
