Iran is exporting elevator and escalator (E&E) equipment and parts to more than 15 countries globally, and exports are expected to exceed imports over the next two to three years, Head of the Iran Chamber of Cooperatives (ICC) Bahman Abdollahi said at the annual International Exhibition of Elevators, Escalators, Conveyors, Components and Accessories in Tehran on July 14-17, the Tehran Times reports. Adbollahi also said 95% of equipment and parts used in E&E are manufactured inside Iran; 5% of such equipment and parts is imported; and 1,200 escalators are manufactured in Iran each year (fewer than 1,000 for domestic consumption and more than 200 for export). During the event inauguration, Deputy Industry Minister Mohammad Mousavi observed that, each year, more than US$2 million of E&E parts are exported. Further, he said, more than 400 companies manufacture E&E equipment across Iran, creating jobs for more than 50,000 people.
