In Memoriam: Ben Abbaspour

Ben Abbaspour, a prolific ELEVATOR WORLD author, engineer, consultant and entrepreneur, passed away in his native Tehran, Iran, on April 4. Abbaspour had been a senior engineer at ABBA Engineering in Solana Beach, California, starting in 2006 and a consultant for Hydranics in Rancho Santa Fe, California, since 2001. Prior to these positions, he served as president of Amlift International Inc. in San Diego, Elevator Equipment Corp. in Los Angeles and Science Laboratories in Tehran, Iran. He was also chief engineer of Elevator Equipment Co. Trained in the ASME A17.1 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators, Abbaspour held a BS in mechanical engineering from Aryamehr University of Technology in Tehran and an MS in the same discipline from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Survivors include daughters Padina and Paniz, and ex-wife Shirin, with whom he remained good friends. His daughters will host a memorial luncheon at the Beverly Wilshire, a Four Seasons Hotel, in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, on May 20.
