In Memoriam: Earl M. Romnes

An icon of the elevator industry described as a “driving force” for the National Elevator Industry Education Program (NEIEP), Earl M. Romnes of Bloomington, Minnesota, passed away in March at age 86. He began his elevator career as a proud member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 9 for 17 years. He then became North Central Region manager for Westinghouse, and later, regional vice president at Schindler. He served as a NEIEP trustee and was on the National Arbitration and Joint Jurisdictional committees of the National Elevator Industry, Inc. Survivors include wife, Shirley; sons, Ric, Tom and Mike; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. His nephew is Steve Romnes of MEI Total Elevator Solutions. Memorials to Earl Romnes may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Sharing and Caring Hands.
