James “Mr. Jim” McKinley

James “Mr. Jim” McKinley, a longtime employee of Salisbury, Maryland-headquartered Delaware Elevator, Inc., passed away on February 9 after 64 years in the industry. McKinley knew every aspect of the elevator industry, including construction, modernization, service, management, sales and inspections. He shared his wisdom of and passion for the industry, and mentored many people, molding them into the mechanics and managers working among us today. McKinley began his elevator career in 1960 with Turnbull Elevator and Southeastern Elevator. He joined Delaware Elevator in the 1970s as Service Operations manager, leaving briefly to join American Elevator and US Elevator and returning to Delaware Elevator in 1989 as senior vice president. During semi-retirement in 2007, McKinley dabbled in inspections, going on to work with Liberty Elevator Consultants until his full retirement in 2021. McKinley’s survivors include two sons, Michael and David; and grandchildren, Matthew, Brittany and Megan. — submitted by Delaware Elevator
