In Memoriam: John ‘Jack’ Durange Jr.

John “Jack” Durange, Jr. of Littlestown, Pennsylvania, a longtime member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC), passed away on April 4 surrounded by his family, the Gettysburg Times reports. He was 58. Durange, born February 22, 1963, in Baltimore, was drawn to electronics and joined IUEC in 1981. It was here that he became an elevator mechanic, mentor and friend to many. He rose to the position of adjuster working on many notable projects. Among his achievements was when he was selected to spend two years adjusting the elevators at the 9/11 Memorial Museum and the J-Bank Observation Deck elevators at the Freedom Tower in NYC. Among his survivors are his wife, Michelle; children, John III, Justin and Samantha; mother, Dakota; sisters, Maria and Laura; and nine grandchildren. Burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hanover, Pennsylvania. The family asks that memorial donations be made to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum at website.
