In Memoriam: Richard Irving Stanley

Stanley

Richard Irving Stanley, who provided the startup money for the family business, Merrimack, New Hampshire-headquartered Stanley Elevator Co., upon his return from the Korean War, passed away on October 31 at age 93. Described as an “elevator man through and through who wore many hats as the company grew,” Stanley spent more than 60 years in the industry, gaining a reputation for treating everyone he encountered with empathy and respect. Hundreds of Stanley Elevator employees spent their entire careers with the company, a testament to the way its founder treated them. “Through Stanley Elevator, Dick’s legacy will continue to positively impact many more people and their families for years to come,” the company said. Stanley was predeceased by his wife of 26 years, Deloris. Survivors include special friend, Madeleine; sisters-in-law, Florence and Sylvia; and many other dear friends and relatives. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared here for the Stanley family, and donations in his memory may be made to Girls Inc. of NH or the Alzheimer’s Association.
