In Memoriam: Robin Cheeseright
Robin Cheeseright, former director of internationally recognized London-based vertical-transportation (VT) consultancy D2E International VT Consultants Ltd. (D2E), has passed away, D2E recently announced. The company said Cheeseright had a passion for customers, their projects and D2E’s contributions to designing “remarkable buildings.” He was the architect of the design competition for the Chimney Lift at Battersea Power Station. He was chair of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) VT Committee in 2016-2020, and authored the CTBUH book Vertical Transportation: A Primer. His experience in the VT and façade-access industries spanned more than 30 years. At Otis, Cheeseright progressed through the organization to senior management positions, which required involvement in all aspects of lift and escalator sales, manufacturing, installation and servicing. Through senior operational and staff roles, Cheeseright was responsible for the commercial aspects of delivering and maintaining many complex projects. In addition, he consulted on, and was responsible for, launching global products and services in the U.K. and Irish markets. In his spare time, he was heavily involved in cycling. Cheeseright retired in February 2020 to focus on other interests and his family. Well-wishers extended deepest sympathies to his family. “Robin was a true ‘people person,’ a mentor and a friend to many who added a sparkle to every meeting,” D2E said.
