In Memoriam: Roger Irvin
Roger Irvin, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on December 6, at the age of 75. Irvin started in the elevator industry in 1965 with K.M. White Elevator based in Louisville, Kentucky. He was drafted into the Army in 1966 and served in Germany from 1966-1968. Upon discharge, Roger returned home to Louisville and went back to K.M. White, which was purchased by Armor Elevator Co., giving Irvin experience in the elevator industry in elevator controls design and as a field technician, entrepreneur/business owner and consultant. He co-founded A & B Elevator in 1977, co-owned Abell Elevator from 1981-1992, and founded Irvin Elevator (1992-2005) and Executive Residential Elevators (2003-2006). He also served on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Elevator Contractors from 2002 to 2005. Irvin retired from the elevator industry in 2006 but remained a consultant for several years. He was ordained as a deacon at Cedar Cliff Missionary Baptist Church in 2010 and became a member of The Gideons International. He was a cowboy at heart and believed in helping others and sharing Jesus. He enjoyed writing poetry, photography, traveling and cooking. Roger was preceded in death by his son, Greg Irvin. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Wanda McCorkle Irvin; his son, Tim, and wife Gretchen; daughter-in-law Julie Irvin; his son, Todd, and wife Teru; eight grandchildren; two brothers; and four nephews. Contributions can be made in memory of Roger Irvin to The Gideons International or Cedar Cliff Missionary Baptist Church in Horse Cave, Kentucky.
