In Memoriam: Viktor Konstantinovich Khristich

Khristich

Longtime ELEVATOR WORLD Russia Correspondent Viktor Konstantinovich Khristich passed away at age 78 on October 24 after a long illness. His colleague, friend and fellow EW Russia Correspondent Yury Kireev said:

“[Khristich] was an outstanding [vertical-transportation] designer and talented organizer. Under his leadership, projects for various lifting machines and mechanisms were developed. The largest of these included an aggregate for the lifting and evacuation of cosmonauts for the launch of the spacecraft at the Baikonur Cosmodrome and the floating water gate’s frame and the drive for a 200-m-wide shipping pass at the Saint Petersburg Flood Prevention Facility complex. One of his main areas of focus was escalators. The ETX escalator (Tunnel Escalator of Khristich) received first prize in EW’s Project of the Year competition in the Escalators, New Construction category. Articles by Khristich and myself on the topic of escalators were often published in EW. [May] the kingdom of heaven [be granted] to him and eternal peace to his soul.”
