IUEC Approves New Bargain for More Than 31,000 Workers

The International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) has entered a new collective bargaining approval covering more than 31,000 workers with the agreement, officials announced in April. In a report presented by Construction Dive, several hundred union delegates took part with IUEC to get the motion approved. Frank Christensen, IUEC general president, applauded the approval, with particular positive comment on the workers. “Delegates from coast to coast came together and got the job done,” said Christensen. The union leader went on to praise the added benefit of the formation of a first-ever labor-management safety committee as an extra safety measure for the workers, saying “ensuring my brothers and sisters are taken care of from a pay and benefits standpoint and keeping them safe on the job” are what matter most. He said that, while lucrative and fulfilling, working in the elevator trade can be dangerous. IUEC has 65 branch location offices around the U.S.
