KONE announced on August 14 it is providing the vertical-transportation (VT) system for the supertall Hainan Center in the CBD of Haikou, the capital city of Hainan — a tropical island in the South China Sea. Designed by HENN — Architecture and developed by Hainan Developing Holding Co., the 94-story structure is the only building above 400 m in a typhoon-prone area. “Leveraging our super-light UltraRope® hoisting technology, we can effectively mitigate the impact of wind” on the supertall, offering passengers a smooth journey, KONE Greater China Executive Vice President Joe Bao said. Upon anticipated opening in 2026, Hainan Center will offer high-end hotels, offices, boutique businesses and amenities within a main tower and east and west podiums. The VT system includes 31 MiniSpaceTM DX elevators that will be the fastest in Hainan Province at 10 m/s, 20 MonoSpace® DX elevators and 36 energy-efficient TravelMasterTM 110 escalators.
