Lagos State Government Addresses Findings in Elevator Incident

The Lagos State Government has made public the panel’s findings on what caused the death of a physician in an elevator incident at a hospital in Odan, Lagos Island, Nigeria, in August 2023, Gistlover.com reports. In a press release, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Strategy Olumide Sogunle stated that the Lagos State Government had already taken some initial actions in response to the panel’s recommendations, including the suspension of the General Manager of the Lagos State Infrastructure and Asset Management Agency and the firing and blacklisting of the elevator facility managers. The elevator in question was installed in 2021, dispelling claims that it had been experiencing problems since 2020. The government said it would be removing the elevator for further examination, and the installation and maintenance contractors are being investigated by the police. Additionally, the Lagos Safety Commission was ordered to conduct an immediate audit of all elevators in public offices after the incident.
