The nonprofit CAN in Automation (CiA) association recently shared news about its latest activities and more. CiA Managing Director Holger Zeltwanger provided an overview of CiA technical groups working to develop specifications and technical reports. These are interest groups (IGs), which may set up special interest groups, and task forces. There are currently IGs focusing on drives and motion control, as well as lift control. CiA members may register for all groups, and non-members may participate on request. New association members include Genemek of Türkiye and Huniolift GmbH of Hungary. On April 17-21, CiA presented CANopen (the CAN communication platform for elevator control systems) including ultrasonic sensors at Hannover Messe 2023 in Hannover, Germany. On June 22, CiA plans to host Technology Day focusing on CAN XL (extra long) open-standard communication networks at Saint Rémy lès Chevreuse in north-central France.
