Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) member Ella Cheetham, managing director of Lifting Gear Products, a division of the Europa Engineering Group, announced she has joined The Company of Cutlers, in Hallamshire, U.K. as a freeman. The Cutlers’ Company was established by a parliamentary Act of Incorporation in 1624 and has sought to maintain the standards and quality of Sheffield manufactured cutlery and steel products and to promote the name of Sheffield for almost 400 years. One of its patrons is Dame Julie Kenny, who is the guild’s second-ever female Master Cutler. “As a manufacturer here in South Yorkshire it is essential to our and other local businesses’ ability to survive and thrive that organizations like The Cutlers’ Company exist and even more so that we are a part of it,” Cheetham said. “It is a huge privilege for me to have been asked to join the guild, especially as a young person and even more so as a woman. This year is a significant year for me to join the company, as Dame Julie Kenny is only the second ever woman in 400 years to be Master Cutler.” The Master Cutler works with “people of influence” to support businesses in South Yorkshire and protects the name ‘Sheffield’, meaning anyone who wants to use the city’s name when registering a company must get permission from the company. Members of the guild also carry out charity work.
