MAD’s First South American Building To Be Tallest in Quito

Chinese architecture studio MAD has revealed visuals of Qondesa, a skyscraper for Ecuador’s capital Quito, reports dezeen. The mixed-use tower would be taller than Danish studio BIG’s nearby 133-m-tall IQON tower, making it the tallest in the city, and mark MAD’s first building in South America. Qondesa will house “intimately scaled” urban apartments and feature a planted façade. Informed by its natural surroundings, the building’s exterior is designed with a “stone coloring” and elaborate organic design that emulates twisting vines. “Eco-efficient engineering” measures will be implemented from the start of construction to ensure the responsible consumption of resources and energy. MAD designed the building for Quito-based developer Uribe Schwarzkopf.
