An 11-year-old boy was hospitalized as a result of getting his head stuck between the balustrade and moving handrail of an escalator at the Okruzhnaya railway station in suburban Moscow on January 3, prvada.ru reports. Traveling with his father, the boy put his head on his hand that was resting on the moving railing, then apparently got pulled in. Emergency responders freed the child, and he was transported to the intensive care unit of a local hospital, where he was treated for a dislocated jaw and multiple head and face contusions. Ministry of Railways representatives said the incident occurred due to “non-compliance with vertical-transportation safety rules,” and observed a sign at the entrance to each escalator cautions parents to watch their children.
