Nippon Otis Elevator Co., Ltd, headquartered in Tokyo, announced on December 22 it received the Silver award in the PRIDE Index 2022, which evaluates the efforts of companies in supporting sexual minorities such as LGBTQ+. A subsidiary of Otis Worldwide Corp., Nippon Otis is led by President Thibaut Lefébure. Otis said the award marks an “important step in our commitment to social justice,” which also includes its recently launched Commitment to Change initiative. Among Nippon Otis initiatives are seminars in support of LGBTQ+ inclusion and on LGBTQ+ allyship for all employees. In 2013, it launched the Japan Otis Diversity Council (now known as the Japan Otis Diversity & Inclusion Council) to promote an inclusive work environment. The company is working toward revising employment benefit regulations to include same-sex partners. Nippon Otis said it will “continue to work toward building a more inclusive work environment where all employees can exchange options openly and demonstrate their individuality.”
