One Dead, One Critially Injured In Bronx Elevator Collapse

One worker died and another was critically injured in an elevator collapse at a construction site in Mott Haven, Bronx, New York, on May 19, Gothamist is among outlets to report. According to the New York Police Department, the men were loading equipment into an elevator when it fell from the fourth floor at approximately 8:30 a.m. A 30-year-old man was trapped under the unit and pronounced dead at the scene, and a 29-year-old man inside the elevator was hospitalized in critical condition. The former Ruppert Ice House at 20 Bruckner Avenue is being redeveloped by MADDD Equities with GDI Construction holding the work permit. GDI issued a statement expressing “deepest sympathies” for the family of the man who died and support for the worker in critical condition. The company said it is working closely with authorities, including the Department of Buildings and OSHA, on a full investigation.
