Otis Indonesia announced on July 18 it has been selected by the Millennium Mall for an elevator and escalator (E&E) replacement and modernization project. The division of Otis Worldwide Corp. will modernize 39 units, including replacing 25 escalators and eight elevators, and modernizing six escalators at the mall, located in the heart of Jakarta. To provide a quieter and more comfortable ride, existing machine belts in several of the elevators will be replaced with Otis Gen2® patented polyurethan-coated steel flat belts designed to significantly decrease vibration. All elevators in the mall will be equipped with Otis’ energy-conserving ReGenTM drive, which converts energy captured during braking into electricity, in turn reducing annual energy consumption by up to 37% compared to existing equipment. Additionally, several escalators in busy areas will undergo in-truss modernization, where the existing escalator framework is retained and updated with new equipment, minimizing disruption and reducing downtime.
