Otis Elevator Korea Vice President and Managing Director IS Cho announced on August 31 that its Gen3TM Ambiance Series and Lifeguard Handrail were recognized as 2023 International Design Excellence Award (IDEA) finalists. Organized by the International Designers Society of America (IDSA), IDEA is considered one of the world’s top three design awards, along with Germany’s iF Design Award and the Red Dot Design Award. The Gen3 Ambiance Series is themed around a “voyage to another world,” and features designs that reflect the nature, architecture and artwork of the East and West. The digitally connected Lifeguard Handrail allows passengers to connect to the OTISLINE 24/7 call center in case of emergencies. Via video call on the Otis eViewTM display, an agent assesses the situation, and the passenger can then use the emergency drinking water, oxygenator and air purifier built into the handrail. The Gen3 Ambiance Series and Lifeguard Handrail were named finalists “for their design innovation, user experience and social contribution,” Otis Korea observed.
