A massive overhaul of South Central Railway’s (SCR) Cherlapally station in eastern Hyderabad, India, includes new vertical-transportation (VT) equipment, specifically, seven lifts and six escalators serving all nine platforms, The New Indian Express reports. The INR4.3 billion (US$51.2 million) project is in its final stages as SCR gears up for the traffic increase that comes with rapid development in the areas near Outer Ring Road. Upon completion, the revamped Cherlapally station will be able to handle 15 additional pairs of trains with 10 additional lines. There will be four additional platforms, and the existing five platforms are being expanded to accommodate full-length trains.
