Twenty people suffered minor injuries after an “overloaded” escalator slid backwards at the SM City Santa Rosa shopping mall in Laguna, Philippines, Yahoo News was among outlets to report. Video footage from the March 5 incident shows an escalator carrying a large crowd of people upwards until it abruptly changes direction, causing a pileup of the rapidly descending passengers. Several of the injured mall-goers were taken to the hospital. A statement from the mall confirmed a faulty escalator part was replaced, and an investigation is ongoing.
