Pair Injured in India Elevator Fall

A doctor couple was seriously injured in Kolkata, India, when the cable of the elevator car the two were traveling in snapped, and the car fell 40 ft to the ground-floor pit, The Times of India reports. Both were hospitalized after the incident for various severe injuries. The 20-year-old building where the incident took place is owned by the couple, who work in the nursing home there and also live on the fourth floor. According to the source, the elevator was installed three years ago and has not been serviced since that time. Police officials said a probe was underway to determine the cause of the accident.
