Pair of Separate Elevators Cause Aggravation in Bronx, NYC
A pair of separate elevator problems in Bronx, NYC — one involving getting stuck at an apartment and the other shutting down a parking building — are pressing on users’ nerves, News 12 The Bronx reported in late March. Regarding the Bridgeport apartment building, a six-month breakdown of the building’s only elevator has prompted seniors and disabled residents to demand action. Dozens of residents say their lives have been turned upside down, with one resident saying the failure is unfair. In response, a spokesman for the apartment said that parts have been delayed due to the pandemic, but the building and its repair crew are trying hard to get the elevator fixed. A specific re-opening time was not available. Regarding the other situation, cars have been trapped in a parking garage in Fordham for more than a month after its elevator broke down. Drivers first began complaining in February 2022, but as of late March, had yet to receive help from either the garage or the city. The Department of Buildings (DoB) has said a car and freight operator were inside the elevator when it fell into the elevator pit, causing severe damage. The elevator has been down ever since. The garage appears to be open for business, but only on the first level. Drivers who have cars on one of the upper floors have not been able to access their vehicles. Postings have shown problems with the garage elevator going all the way back to 2004. The owner of the building, as well as the DoB, have been looking at the situation since early March, and intend to follow up on repair status.
