Plan For Three Towers In Ontario Garners Praise, Concerns
Emblem Developments submitted plans for three new towers on Wilson and John Streets in downtown Hamilton, Ontario, The Public Record reports. Each tower will be 30 stories tall, providing 908 residential units and 1,784 m2 of retail on the ground level of a seven-story podium. The podium will contain 505 parking spaces and 469 bicycle parking spaces. Hamilton’s Design Review Panel praised the design overall but had some issues with the podium and its relationship with a church on the corner of Hughson and Wilson Streets, as well as the public realm surrounding the podium. The demolition of a single-family home and an automotive business will make way for the towers. The towers will be made of Winham brick, which will complement the brick of the church. Construction will begin after another Emblem project, a 14-story condominium tower, is complete.
