Queensboro Plaza Station in NYC to Get Three ADA-Compliant Elevators
The NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) Queensboro Plaza subway station in Long Island City, Queens, is getting two new Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant elevators, Patch is among outlets to report. The developer of a 26-story apartment tower on the station’s north side is also installing a street-level elevator to the station mezzanine in exchange for zoning bonuses, bringing the total of new elevators to three. The two MTA elevators will travel from the station’s south side in front of what is now a pawn shop to the mezzanine and, on the east side, from the mezzanine to the elevated platform, which is currently ADA-inaccessible. Slated for completion in September 2024, the Queensboro work is part of a larger MTA effort to install elevators at seven other stations in the next few years. Additional improvements include extending the mezzanine by 50 ft. and installing a new public address system, fire alarms, security cameras, lighting and digital information screens.
