An older man died in January after being hurt in the shaft of an elevator at an apartment building in the Indian city of Bhubaneswar, Pragativadi reports. According to news about the incident, the man was heading to a market and was taking the lift to reach the ground floor. However, due to suspected mechanical glitch, the elevator remained on the ground floor. The man attempted to step into the elevator at the second floor, not realizing that the lift hadn’t arrived. He entered the shaft and fell, suffering injuries. Family members rushed him to the hospital, but he was declared dead by a scene doctor.
