San Antonio Officials Set Vote On Funding Elevator Repairs

The Tower of the Americas, a popular viewing and restaurant high rise in San Antonio, Texas, is in line for improvements to its elevators, NEWS4SA reports. The situation will require approval of city voters. Last November, the source reported it had found inspections dated from 2019 claiming that the three exterior elevators’ brackets were possible threats to passenger safety. City officials say the tower is safe, but the inspections took place more than two years ago and, at that time, found that all of the elevators’ guiderail brackets needed to be replaced within three years. The exterior of the tower also needs surface repairs to prevent falls of concrete pieces. Estimates say needed repairs would run around US$10 million, which would be funded through the city bond. Officials set a public vote in May to decide on the funding proposal.
