Schindler Providing Nine New Escalators for PRT Modernization Project

A Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) spokesman tells ELEVATOR WORLD Schindler is providing nine new escalators for a US$13.5-million modernization project underway at three downtown light rail stations. Geared toward improving performance, safety and reliability, the project is set to wrap up in 2024. On April 24, work began to replace three of four escalators at Steel Plaza Station and will then move to Wood Street Station in fall 2023 and First Avenue Station in early 2024. In summer 2024, contractors will replace the fourth Steel Plaza escalator. Escalators will be closed while work is underway, but the stations’ elevators and stairs will remain open. PRT says the project is being led by general contractor Mosites Construction Co., with electrical work handled by Merit Electrical Group, Inc.
