Schindler announced on April 4 it will provide 40 vertical-transportation (VT) units — 20 elevators and 40 escalators — for the Surrey Langley SkyTrain project, a 16-km expansion of Metro Vancouver, Canada’s, SkyTrain rapid transit system. Connecting some of the region’s fastest-growing cities, the project includes eight new stations and three new transit exchanges. The high-performance, midrise elevators and escalators are designed specifically for public transport. All escalators are compliant with the American Public Transportation Association’s guidelines for transit systems, and all elevators and escalators will be digitally connected, enabling constant remote monitoring. The Surrey Langley SkyTrain project is expected to be operational in late 2029. Schindler Canada President Lisa Konnry said the OEM’s partnership with general contractor South Fraser Station Partners, built on a “shared passion for delivering excellent customer service,” will be key to the project’s success.
