In an effort to achieve net zero by 2040, Schindler is integrating eco-consciousness into its entire product lifecycle, the Khaleej Times reports. The company has been able to reduce consumption and utilize sustainable materials while incorporating energy-efficient components and technologies such as LED lighting and regenerative drives to reduce power usage. Schindler initiated a circular economy by ensuring a high level of recyclability within its products, a focus on longevity and supporting the safe disposal of its products at the end of their life cycle. Its selection of materials, focusing on high recyclability rates, amplifies sustainable practices. Escalators and moving walks are engineered for long lives, employing materials with high recyclability rates: 96% of the metals in the escalators being recyclable. Equipped with load- and passenger-sensing devices, Schindler’s escalator systems dynamically adjust motor output and speed according to demand. The use of precision mechanisms like frequency converters and radar sensors in standby mode also helps to conserve energy. Additionally, Schindler emphasizes recyclable minimal plastic usage and a focus on safety with more than 35 safety features. Schindler fully supports the Paris Climate Agreement and the transition to a low-carbon economy through sustainable transportation and improving the energy efficiency of its manufacturing processes and operations.
