Plans for construction of a 57-story residential/commercial tower appears ready to begin at a long vacant site across the street from Seattle City Hall, The Seattle Times reports. Bosa Development, the company behind the plan, says work to build the 422-condo project will begin in April. The project is designed to include ground-level retail and a public plaza. City officials last week approved the developer to begin shoring and excavating at the site, with future permits for the building process to be issued in phases. Different plans at the site were dropped going all the way back to 2007, when the Great Recession caused funding situations across the U.S. It also stalled in 2015 over legal issues against a different developer and local officials. With the pandemic situation now two years in, politicians and business groups express eagerness to repolish the city’s downtown reputation. If planning and construction progress as planned, the project is expected to finish in 2026.
