Six Residential Towers Nestled in Greenery Planned in Ecuador
In its first project in South America, architect MVRDV has conceived a plan that consists of six residential towers up to 470 ft tall atop a mixed-use plinth on the Guayaquil Guayas River in Guayaquil, Ecuador, designboom reports. Created for Quito, Ecuador-based developer Uribe Schwarzkopf, the complex is described by MVRDV founding partner Jacob van Rijs as “almost a city in itself,” with towers of varying heights creating their own “mini skyline.” At their bases, the towers merge together “to form a terraced, green valley programmed with an oasis of pools, sports fields and a large urban amphitheater facing the riverfront, all surrounded by lush vegetation native to Ecuador,” the source observes. Wide, curving balconies are designed to shade the structures’ glass façades, while the towers’ curved shapes aim to facilitate breezes throughout the property. No construction timeframe was provided, but the project, known as The Hills, is set to unfold in two phases in the upscale Puerto Santa Ana neighborhood.
