As part of a final-year project, Finn Berg, who recently completed a bachelor’s degree course in Automotive and Transport Design at the University of Coventry in the U.K., designed a superyacht explorer he calls EXO-X, autoevolution reports. Superyacht explorers are capable of reaching remote locations and are loaded with exploration and research gear, along with having fancy amenities that sometimes rival, or even beat, luxury yachts. EXO-X has all of this while also being the first superyacht explorer (concept) in the world to feature a telescopic observation elevator, which rises up through the hardtop of the sundeck to offer a high vantage point. According to Berg, an observation point of this type has never been included before in superyacht design. EXO-X has a total length on water of 63.3 m with a beam of 11.3 m and a draft of 3.3 m. It offers accommodation for 12 guests, a crew of 14 and additional quarters for a research team of four. EXO-X also features a helipad, a large garage that can hold everything from tenders and Jet Skis to rescue boats, several outdoor lounging areas, including one underwater, and a sundeck.
