The Egyptian Electricity Holding Company has warned citizens not to use elevators during planned power outages, the Egypt Independent reports. According to the company, the outages last for a 20 min period — 10 min before the top of the hour and 10 min after it on scheduled dates. Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker attributed the “temporary” crisis in power production to a lack of fuel and low pressure in gas networks due to high loads on the electricity network during the heatwave. Egyptian Streets reports that many citizens and media figures have expressed confusion and disappointment regarding the outages, which have been reported to go on for several hours in some places.
