Tennessee Jail Elevator Repairs Needed

The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) in Tennessee is asking for US$320,000 for emergency funding for a new elevator, FOX17 WZTV reports. The elevator is used to transport inmates who need medical or mental health care. The jail has one elevator left, but Steve Spence from the RCSO spoke at a public safety committee meeting on August 23, saying, “If you have been to the sheriff’s office we have two elevators in the station lobby, we’ve put a wall between those elevators and the visitation lobby to make it a secured area and we’ve cut a hole between the visitation lobby and detention so we are using those for a backup.” They had to get creative by installing some drywall just to get the two rooms separated. It is unknown how long the elevator will be down. The jail is five stories tall.
