Texas Courthouse to Replace Elevator
Grayson County officials recently approved spending US$450,000 on an elevator replacement project for the public elevators at the Grayson County Courthouse in Sherman, Texas, the HeraldDemocrat reports. The funds needed for the renovation will come from the American Recovery Act. The project will also see a change in the positioning of the elevator. It is currently off the main hallway on most of the floors of the courthouse with a small area one must enter off the hallway, which is more difficult for people using assistance devices such as wheelchairs or scooters. The new elevator will open right into the hallway, making it more accessible. In addition to the elevator, the courthouse is also equipped with a chairlift to help people navigate the stairs between levels, and both the west and south sides of the courthouse are equipped for handicapped access.
