The Skyscraper Museum, a nonprofit educational entity devoted to studying the past, present and future of high-rise buildings, plans to resume its “semester” series on The Modern Concrete Skyscraper on January 10 at 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. At that time, architect David West plans to host a free webinar covering the history of residential high-rise design in NYC from the post-war years, explaining developments such as the significance of reinforced flat-plate construction and the impact of zooming and regulatory environments on housing production. The previous iteration of the series focused on residential buildings in Chicago, and now, it returns to The Skyscraper Museum’s homebase of NYC. West has led the design of more than 150 multifamily projects, including Bankside in the Bronx, 11 Hoyt (architect Jeanne Gang’s first NYC skyscraper and one of the tallest buildings in Brooklyn, served by elevators by Fujitec) and 130 William in the Financial District, designed by designed by Sir David Ajaye with elevators by Fujitec.
