TKE Celebrates 20 Years of the TWIN Elevator System

After first showcasing TWIN — the world’s first elevator to feature two cabins operating independently in the same shaft — at the University of Stuttgart in Germany in 2003, TK Elevator (TKE) is celebrating the system’s 20th anniversary this year. TKE observed that each year more developers, architects and planners incorporate TWIN into their buildings. Benefits include significant space and energy savings, as well as greater traffic efficiency. The system boasts a four-level, TÜV-approved and SIL-classified safety system that ensures cabins always operate at a safe distance from each other. As of 2023, TWIN has been installed in major cities in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America. French architect Jean-Luc Crochon, who incorporated eight TWINs into the landmark Trinity Towers in Paris’ La Défense district, said the TWIN lifts help “accentuate the unique façade of Trinity by offering a glimpse of the effervescent life inside.”
