The Mitsui Fudosan Residential’s Nishi-Shinjuku 5-chome Central South District Type 1 Urban Redevelopment Project has been approved by the governor of Tokyo, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat reports via Built. In 2014, 0.8 ha of the area, which contains densely populated wooden houses and narrow streets, was earmarked for intervention to improve urban disaster response and infrastructure rejuvenation. The project will provide housing, commercial space and childcare facilities, with a total floor area of 53,742 m2. A 41-floor seismic isolation structure will be installed along with three plazas and open spaces to create an evacuation space and an entryway for emergency vehicles in case of a disaster. The project aims to be completed in 2024.
