During its September 5 meeting, the Kirkland Lake council passed a bylaw awarding a contract to TK Elevator (TKE) (Canada) Ltd. in the sum of CAD133,585 (US$97,636) plus tax for upgrades to the town hall elevator, The Sault Star reports. The elevator is extremely old and in recent times has seen several breakdowns. Near North Elevator Consulting was contacted to oversee the project, which included a site inspection, an elevator condition report, on-site progress management and completion. According to officials, TKE (Canada) “was chosen as the preferred proponent based on their familiarity with the town hall facility; the quality of their past work undertaken and the benefit of having a technician located in the Town of Kirkland Lake.” The modernization will focus on the elevator’s hydraulics and some parts that have become obsolete. The project is expected to take approximately eight months once awarded with completion expected by April/May 2024.
