Vertical-transportation (VT) products from Antalya, Turkey-based AKE Asansör were chosen for the İzmir Fahrettin Altay-Narlıdere Metro being built by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality. AKE signed a contract to supply a total of 82 units, including 60 escalators and 22 elevators, for the seven stations of the new metro line. To provide a faster and more comfortable ride for the masses utilizing the line, AKE’s heavy-duty model T escalators and V line elevators — which feature a vandal-proof and plain design — will be used. When the new line is complete, the total number of stations in İzmir’s rail system network will increase to 24, and length of the lines to 28 km. It is expected the AKE VT installations will be completed within one year, and the line will be put into service.
