Bespoke carbon fiber lift manufacturer U.K.-based Opulent Designs received its first maritime order to supply custom fiber interiors for a lift on a yacht in Florida, SuperyachtNews reports. Opulent Designs CEO Alister Bennett also says the company is working with residential architects in the Middle East and Europe on confidential projects. He tells ELEVATOR WORLD his company’s expansion into “land-based sales” is initially focusing on the Middle East. The source described Opulent Designs as “the world’s first designer and supplier of bespoke carbon fiber lifts for the superyacht industry and high-end residential market.” The custom components for the Florida project are being manufactured at Supernatural-X’s 10,000-m2 facility in the U.K., and will then be shipped to Holland Marine Lift BV in Rotterdam for assembly and onboard installation. Holland Marine is also ordering its own custom carbon fiber lift to serve “as a working showcase for superyacht builders.” Bennett says that unit is scheduled for installation at the shipyard in June. He said his company’s lifts are ideal for yachts because they are lightweight (15 kg versus 400 kg for a typical steel shaft installation), can be installed in sections (rather than lowered in by crane) and are compact.
